Matthew 'Blue' Blue was many things to our community and to those he loved. He was a friend, comedian, teammate, coach, teacher, father, husband, son, uncle, and brother. Blue had a huge heart and impacted more lives than anyone can count. Matt had a unique ability to light up a room, spark engaging conversations, and share his words of encouragement and wisdom with everyone he met. Sadly, Matt lost the fight to cancer at the age of 40, just 16 months after his diagnosis, leaving behind his wife and three children. His diagnosis served as a powerful reminder of how precious life is, encouraging others to embrace every moment, strive to be the best version of themselves, and appreciate life's offerings, no matter how big or small. Matt's legacy will be everlasting, and we are determined to let his light shine through community events, including a memorial golf tournament in his honor. Blue was a lifelong Eastern Shoreman, born in Easton and graduating from Easton High School in 2002. A talented athlete, he excelled in baseball, soccer, and basketball and went on to become the goalie for the Salisbury University Men’s Soccer Team. It wasn't just his skills that made him a leader; he kept the team lighthearted and motivated them to work harder and succeed together. After graduating from Salisbury, he returned to Easton, continuing to foster the community he cherished. He redirected his competitive spirit to coaching Easton High School’s soccer and baseball teams. In 2010, Blue joined Talbot County Public Schools as a Special Education Teacher, earning the respect and admiration of many as a beloved mentor and friend at Easton Elementary School, Easton High School, and Easton Middle School. In 2016, he made one of his wisest decisions by marrying Morgan, and together they created a beautiful family with their three children. As his children grew, he shifted from high school coaching to leading his children’s sports teams. You could often find Blue on the sidelines of various soccer fields, basketball courts, and baseball fields around the county, teaching the next generation how to be fierce and honorable competitors.

Matt was part of a fantasy football league tradition that took place the weekend before Labor Day every year. What began as a small gathering to honor their friend, Matt Blue, quickly grew into an event the larger community wanted to participate in, highlighting once again the lasting impact of Blue's spirit. The event organizers aim for this memorial golf tournament to be an annual occasion where those who cherished Matt can come together to share Blue stories and embody his legacy of bringing people together. All funds raised will go directly to the Matt Blue Memorial Fund, which operates as a component fund under The Foundation for Community Development, Inc., a registered 501(c)3 public charity. All volunteers involved in planning and organizing this memorable event are doing so on a purely volunteer basis.
